Not One Sparrow: A2 and A6 and The Blood Issue: Part 2

_ccrl Not One Sparrow

Two sparrows sell for a coin of small value, do they not?

Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.

But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

So have no fear; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Matthew 10:29-31

Does the command to abstain from blood extend to blood transfusions? Yes. The classic illustration for this is: Suppose a doctor were to tell you to abstain from alcoholic beverages. Would that simply mean that you should not drink alcohol but that you could have it injected into your veins?

What if it’s a “life or death situation”? Does that mean it’s alright to take blood to stay alive a little longer in this system? What did Jesus say about this?

“If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself and pick up his torture stake  and keep following me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Really, what good will it do a man if he gains the whole world but loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? (Matthew 16:24-26)

We value our lives and the lives of our loved ones. When we wisely accept Jehovah’s direction even in serious medical situations, then we truly treasure life as Jehovah does. That life can stretch out before us into a perfect future, free from pain and suffering, sickness and death. Even if you should face death, you can be happy in the knowledge that those who die doing God’s will have a sure place in the resurrection.

The next question is, “Are there any high-quality alternatives to blood transfusions? And what is the only blood that is truly lifesaving? Please see my next post for Part 3.
