My Servant Job: 5.5″ Square

And Jehovah said to Satan: “Have you taken note of my servant Job?

There is no one like him on the earth.

He is an upright man of integrity,

fearing God and shunning what is bad.”

Job 1:8

The Bible teaches how Satan challenged God’s right to rule, and the righteousness of his rule. The rebellion in Eden demonstrated this. (I talked about this in a little more detail HERE and HERE.) The account of  Job sheds more light on this issue of Universal Sovereignty, and shows how it is still relevant today and involves you and me and everyone living.

In the book of Job, we see the unfolding of events when Satan claims that Job only serves God because it’s to his advantage. Satan questions Job’s motives for serving God and asserts that given a chance, he can turn Job away from serving God.

…”Have you not put up a protective hedge around him and his house and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has spread out in the land.  But, for a change, stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your very face.” Job 1: 10,11

But Jehovah has confidence in Job. He knows that Job serves him out of love. And even though Job doesn’t know anything about what is happening behind the scenes, so to speak, he keeps his integrity despite terrible suffering.

In my next post, I’ll show how the Bible brings to light how we are involved in this still-unfolding drama.
