Men Spoke from God: A6 and QL

May 3, 2010

Prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will,

but men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit.

1 Peter 1:20

Long before Jesus was born, the Bible foretold the coming of the one whom God would send as the Messiah. There are hundreds of prophecies foretelling many details about him. Why? Because it was so important to Jehovah that people could accurately identify the true Messiah.

Of all these prophecies, my favourite one is the one where Micah says, 700 years in advance, that the promised One would be born in Bethlehem, a small town in the land of Judah. Most people know that Jesus was in fact born there. An astonishing thing in itself. But the part that really makes it my favourite? I learned that there were two Israelite towns called Bethlehem. (The second one was in the territory of Zebulun (Jos 19:10, 15) ) And Micah prophesied the precise one.

“And you, O Beth′le‧hem Eph′ra‧thah, the one too little to get to be among the thousands of Judah,

from you there will come out to me the one who is to become ruler in Israel,

whose origin is from early times, from the days of time indefinite.”
