“We Have Found the Messiah”

April 20, 2010

“Andrew found his brother, Simon, and said to him: “We have found the Messiah”

(which means, when translated, Christ).”

John 1:41

What does “Messiah” mean? The Hebrew word “Ma‧shi′ach” means “anointed one”. When the scriptures were translated into Greek, the word used for anointed one was “Khri‧stos”, in English – Christ.

In Bible times, many rulers were ceremonially anointed to officially confirm their appointment to office. Jesus was anointed by Jehovah to a special office which has an important place in the fulfillment of God’s promises.

Warm thanks to Gunhild for her butterfly
