Be Wise: 5×7″ Card

January 27, 2010

“Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice,

that I may make a reply to him that is taunting me.”

Proverbs 27:11

What went wrong? Why do we not live on a paradise earth filled with perfect, happy people?

The answer is in the beginning of the Bible. You  have likely heard all the key words – Adam and Eve, Garden of Eden, Devil, Tree – but have you ever read the account for yourself, directly from Genesis 3? If not, how about doing that today?

Satan the Devil speaks to Eve by means of a serpent. By telling her lies, he gets her to disobey God.

Satan thus attacked what is called God’s “sovereignty,” or position as the Most High. Satan questioned whether God rules in a worthy way and in the best interests of His subjects. Satan also brought into question whether any human would remain loyal to God.

By doing this, Satan made himself God’s enemy. That is why he came to be called Satan the Devil. (“Satan” means opposer and “Devil” means slanderer.)
